The subject of grooming dogs is as broad as it is long. For every breed there is an individual method of removing excess coat, according to coat type, as well as a style of trimming. This part of JaneDogs is designed to explain some of the skills, and techniques evolved.
As my personal experience has been mostly with Terriers, at present this is where section concentrates. But it is hoped this section will be expanded in the future.
Here we deal with hand stripping Terriers, using the Airedale Terrier as an example. As hand stripping Terriers is fast becoming a dying art, it is my aim to share this specialised expertise with future generations of dog enthusiasts. This whole process is demonstrated while it is happening in the DVD below which serves as an adjunt to the pages which follow.
Poodle Historic Grooming Diagrams
In 1960 whilst training in Paris in Canine aesthetics, I worked for a Monsieur Marcel who is acknowledged as the creator of the 'Lamb Clip' for Poodles which he did for the Dutch Princess Juilette in 1932. Although Poodle trimming has changed dramatically over the last century, his previously unpublished hand drawn diagrams, all written in French, are reproduced here.
